Comparing Hyperoptic Broadband packages

The best contract

Aside from students and the fair fibre plan, all customers need to choose between signing up for a 12 month or 24 month contract. Hyperoptic’s monthly rolling broadband plans are significantly more expensive–like nearly 40%–than a 24 month contract. Unless you get their basic fast broadband; then it’s only 10% more.

However, we don’t recommend the fast broadband due to its price-performance ratio in comparison to the superfast broadband package. Only if you needed broadband on a monthly basis would this make sense.

So the question is 12 months or 24 months? Purely considering savings, it only makes sense to get the 24 month contract if you want superfast broadband. It’s 12% more when you opt for a 12 month contract instead of 24 months. Whereas, it’s only 5% and 4% more respectively with the ultrafast and hyperfast broadband. 

This extra year of commitment only returns serious value on one–the superfast package–broadband plan. Therefore, we rate the 12 month contract as the best option at Hyperoptic.

The best package

Seeing how we’ve determined the 12 month contract to offer the best valuet, we will use this for comparison. Here are the specs and prices of Hyperoptic’s broadband packages:

• Fast: 50Mb fast and £30 per month
• Superfast: 150Mb fast and £35 per month
• Ultrafast: 500Mb fast and £39 per month
• Hyperfast: 1Gb fast and £44 per month

The Fast plan may not sound bad, but be aware the upload speed for this plan is only 5Mb. All of the other packages have the same download and upload speed. 

Virtually every home can get by with the 150Mb speed that the Superfast plan offers. Its biggest downfall is that you do save over 12% by signing up for 24 months. Not everyone will be willing or able to sign up for this long of a period.
