FAQs
How do I use my Trainline discount code?
Click on one of our deals. A code will appear in the box if one is required to redeem the discount. Make sure to copy the code.
Visit the Trainline site to get your tickets.
Select the items you would like to purchase and head to checkout.
Enter your code in the designated box located in the order summary. Your discount will be automatically applied.
What savings can I expect with Trainline promo codes?
There is no average discount at Trainline. Codes range from 15% and 30% to £10 or £15 off. What you can expect is that the codes will be either for Railcard or season tickets at Trainline.
Does Trainline have an NHS discount?
Sadly, no. We work directly with Trainline and monitor common key worker discount providers like Blue Light Card. Should a discount become available, we will update our page.
What happens if my train gets cancelled at Trainline?
Should your train be cancelled, you can take another train or opt for a refund. Here are the options for taking another train:
Take any next available train with the same operator (advance single tickets and anytime tickets only)
With off-peak or other restricted tickets, you must follow the conditions on your ticket
You can contact Trainline within 90 days after your train was cancelled to get compensated with a refund. Log into your account, go to your bookings and select the booking that was cancelled; there will be a button to request a refund.
Most rail ticket providers only offer annual memberships, which isn’t always a good deal depending on how often you travel. Trainline, on the other hand, has a range of season ticket options:
Weekly season ticket
Monthly season ticket
Flexi season ticket
Annual season ticket
According to trainline, you can save ⅓ on rail travel with their digital or paper season tickets. We recommend visiting their season ticket page to learn more about what ticket is best for you. They have detailed information on what each ticket does and does not provide, as well as a calculator to decide which option is best for you based on how often you travel and popular season ticket routes.
2. Travel during off-peak times
By travelling during off-peak times, you can save as much as 61% at Trainline. When are off-peak times?
Intercity: Monday - Friday from 09:30 to 16:00 and after 19:00
London: First service until 06:30, 09:30 to 16:00 and after 19:00
Keep an eye out for super off-peak times, which follow the aforementioned time windows. They are the least busy period for specific routes and you will find the best savings there.
3. Get a Railcard
Railcard can help you save ⅓ off the price of your ticket, just like with the Trainline season tickets. However, they apply to more than just two train stations and come with a range of other benefits like partner discounts.
We work with Railcard, too, so check out our dedicated page with all the information you need about Railcard and potential discount codes.
If you already have a Railcard or plan on purchasing one, you still need to link it to your Trainline account. Go to your account within the app and you will see a ‘Railcards’ section. Add and manage your Railcards from there.
4. Group discount
You don’t have to travel in a big group to qualify for the Trainline group discount. In fact, you only need 3 people. Groups of 3 - 9 people qualify for up to 34% off their train tickets without any season ticket or Railcard.
Not all rail travel qualifies for GroupSave. It’s predominantly for off-peak, but not always.
5. Apply one of our codes
Now you have all the tools at your disposal to save. Get a season ticket, link your Railcard, travel off-peak and in a group if possible. But before you use any of what you’ve learned, you need to check for Trainline promo codes to save on a Railcard or season ticket. There are never codes for single tickets, only memberships.
Make sure to view our FAQ step by step instructions on how to apply your code if you are struggling to checkout.
